['bɔkoːts], Tamás (Thomas), Erzbischof von Gran (1498-1521), * Erdőd (heute Ardud bei Sathmar, Rumänien) um 1442, ✝ Gran (heute Esztergom) 15. 6. 1521; gewann entscheidenden Einfluss auf die ungarische Politik, zunächst als Sekretär von Matthias I. Corvinus und später als Erzkanzler unter Wladislaws II., dessen Wahl zum ungarischen König er 1490 durchgesetzt hatte. Als Kardinal (1500) und Titularbischof von Konstantinopel (1507) bemühte er sich vergeblich, Papst zu werden. Bakócz erwirkte eine Bulle zum Kreuzzug gegen die Türken, der 1514 den Bauernaufstand von G. Dózsa auslöste. Er förderte die Künste; u. a. ließ er die nach ihm benannte Bakóczkapelle in Gran errichten (1506/07; 1822-56 beim Bau des Domes verlegt), eines der schönsten Denkmäler der italienischen Hochrenaissance in Ungarn.
